A major tourism site in Brittany, centered on the history of the area

Part of the project is to do for Brittany what the Greeks did with their mythology: a tourism pull-factor on an international level. Popular culture, built around the lives of the Saints all along the past centuries, constitutes an exceptional inheritance, which is to be salvaged and developped.

Tales as universal as the legend of the city of Ys, or the achievements of the Saints who mastered the sea or beat dragons, or even the life of Saint Hervé, the blind bard, make up the “Canticle of Paradise”. They are among the finest pages of world litterature.

Brittany recently managed to salvage its sea heritage, through the adventure of the “old sailing ships”. It is now time to get down to the task of preserving Brittany’s popular culture, that is to say its identity. The future can only be built if one relies on yesterday’s heritage...

The Valley of the Saints, a unique site and a crossroads of various cultures (Welsh, Irish, Cornwallian, Breton...) aims at attracting several hundreds thousands visitors every year.

Promoting and Salvaging Brittany’s Granite Industry

“... Brittany is a land of granite. One just has to visit this area to see it... In Brittany, whatever you do, you can’t ignore granite. It is our safest heritage: freestone.”

                                                        (Pierre Jakez Hélias)

The Valley of the Saints aims at becoming a showcase for Brittany’s granite. This place will reflect the wealth and diversity of Brittany’s granite quarries, and the vitality of this key-sector for the local and national economies.

A partnership with Brittany’s UNICEM, and Brittany’s granite developers (7 companies) is planned for the supply and transportation of all the granite blocks (August 2008)
